Years ago, adding an app's feature to a store often meant pasting a snippet into your theme's code. A theme app embed replaces that. The app provides the code, and you switch it on or off with a toggle in the theme editor. Nothing in your theme files changes.
Chablyy's storefront chat works this way. Here's how to turn it on.
What you'll need
- A theme that supports app embeds (Online Store 2.0 themes do).
- Chablyy installed on your store.
Turn it on
- In your Shopify admin, open Online Store, then Themes.
- Next to your live theme, click Customize to open the theme editor.
- In the left sidebar, open App embeds.
- Find Chablyy Chat and switch it on.
- Click Save.
If you'd rather not hunt for it, Chablyy's setup has an Enable Chablyy Chat on your store button that opens the theme editor for you.
Check that it worked
Open your storefront in a new tab and look for the chat launcher. Chablyy also checks whether the embed is on. It only reads your theme for this, and never writes to it, and it tells you in the app when it sees the embed is enabled.
You can also use Preview as shopper during setup to open your storefront with the chat on, before it goes live for everyone. Shoppers don't see the chat until setup is complete.
If it isn't showing
- You didn't save. The toggle only takes effect after you click Save in the theme editor.
- Another theme is live. App embed settings are stored with each theme, so if you publish a different theme, check that the embed is switched on there too.
- Your theme doesn't support app embeds. Older themes may not. Switching to an Online Store 2.0 theme solves it.
- Widget settings are hiding it. Check that you haven't hidden the chat on mobile or on certain pages in Chablyy's widget settings.
Turn it off
Reverse the steps: open App embeds in the theme editor, switch Chablyy Chat off, and click Save. The chat disappears from your storefront straight away, and you can switch it back on whenever you like.
